Little Free Libraries
Little Free Libraries
The Junior League of Riverside, Inc. installed and helps maintain two Little Free Libraries located in Riverside near the playgrounds at Reid and Ryan Bonamino Parks. These focus on providing free children’s literature in both Spanish and English to our bilingual community. We encourage community participation to help our local school children have more access to free literature. Our Little Free Libraries are strategically placed where a local public library is not necessarily walking distance.
The Junior League of Riverside focus is improving the lives of women and children and early literacy is a significant predictor of future success. A few facts on literacy:
2/3 of students who cannot read proficiently by the end of 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare.
About 80% of children living in economically disadvantaged communities will lose reading skills over summer breaks due to a lack of access to books and other resources
61% of low-income families have no books at all in their homes for their children.
About 75% of people currently in prison have low literacy skills.
The Junior League will be happy to pick up your gentle used books of all reading levels. Please email us at info@jlriverside.org, you may also visit our Amazon Wish List.
